Case Study: White Magic
The embedded pdf shows a hypothetical example of a tipsheet, onesheet, press kit, and other marketing collateral such as potential advertisements for Elissa Washuta’s White Magic published by Tin House in Portland, OR. Throughout this process, I learned how to write short, attention-grabbing hooks and description, highlight the key selling points of a book, choose BISAC subject codes to reach the correct audience and display correctly to booksellers.
Social Media Posts
These are examples of social media posts I have created throughout the years. My goal for social posts is to catch the attention of someone scrolling through Instagram quickly while also including as much basic information that they would need to understand the ask of the post. This could be donating, attending an event, or entering a giveaway. One reason for including the past examples and then the most recent example on the left for Ooligan Press, is to demonstrate the importance of branding and matching the content to the occasion and illustrating my improvement in this area. It also demonstrates the change in tone from creating content for an informal club to creating content for a professional company/organization and the inclusion of hashtags used to reach a wider audience that wouldn’t be necessary for a school club but that is vital for a publisher to reach new audiences and attract new readers.
Mock Publishing Marketing
These are examples of marketing collateral for mock books created by classmates, friends, or myself. (Samples still being collected.)
