This Twine was created as support for my master's thesis which asked the question: What audiences do independent publishers based in Washington and Oregon publish for based on their submission guidelines and publicly available website information, and how can this audience information inform decisions from potential authors about where to submit their manuscripts? This turned into a quest to showcase the publishers on the coastal Pacific Northwest. While I did my best to include most publishers, I had to narrow the scope of my research and, therefore, the scope of the publishers that I was able to catalog. This list is not exhaustive. It is based on the Publishers Archive list for each state. In addition, I have added a few more that I knew of and removed some from the list that didn't fit my criteria. This list does not include: * Publishers that charge money for their services. This includes hybrind publishers, vanity presses, and other "partnership" models that require the author to pay for the editing and publication of the book. It also includes publishers that charge reading or submission fees. * Publishers that are considered "author-publishers" or author collectives. * Textbook or manual publishers or other publishers whose scope is limited to a single topic that is not for a general audience. For example, publishers that only produce business books, language learning books, guides for sailboats or Dungeons and Dragons, or similar single-topic publications are not included. * Publishers who only publish chapbooks or literary journals/magazines. Each publisher included on this list must publish trade books. While this can sometimes include anthologies, for the most part these publishers are not included on this list. I would love to hear from you about what you think. You can contact me through my LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sienna-berlinger

The publishing industry in the US is known for being based more on the East Coast, but there are so many wonderful trade book publishers to discover on the West Coast. If you want to explore these publishers by state you can find them here: [[Oregon Publishers]] [[Washington Publishers]] If you are looking to submit a manuscript or proposal to one of these publishers, you can narrow down which publisher fits your book best here: [[What format is your book?]] You can also [[Learn More]] about this Twine.
